Equity and Diversity works in partnership with the faculties, Human Resources Division and other areas to further develop and implement gender equity strategies. The focus is on three key areas:
- Employment practices – ensuring employment policies and practices are inclusive by reducing barriers and strengthening career opportunities for women
- Workplace culture – developing gender inclusive workplaces, fair and equitable organisational structures, and heightened awareness of gender equity in decision making
- Leadership and management – ensuring gender equity initiatives are championed by senior leaders.

Equity and Diversity also coordinates special projects and campaigns related to gender equity, including the university-wide End violence against women campaign.
2013 report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA)
In accordance with the requirements of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012, on 31 May 2013, Deakin University lodged its annual public report with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency. Deakin University WGEA report 2013 (staff only).
Employer of Choice for Women
Deakin received the 'Employer of Choice for Women' citation for seven consecutive years.
Awarded by the Australian Government's Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA), now the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), the citation recognises the University's sustained efforts to improve employment outcomes for women.
The Workplace Gender Equality Agency will award the new WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation for the first time in 2014.
