Gender equity

Equity and Diversity works in partnership with the faculties, Human Resources Division and other areas to further develop and implement gender equity strategies. The focus is on three key areas:

  • Employment practices – ensuring employment policies and practices are inclusive by reducing barriers and strengthening career opportunities for women
  • Workplace culture – developing gender inclusive workplaces, fair and equitable organisational structures, and heightened awareness of gender equity in decision making
  • Leadership and management – ensuring gender equity initiatives are championed by senior leaders.

Equity and Diversity also coordinates special projects and campaigns related to gender equity, including the University-wide End violence against women campaign.

2015 Report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency

On 9 July 2015 Deakin University lodged its annual public compliance report with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). For any comment on the report, please contact Mel Martinelli or the Workplace Gender Equality Agency.

Employer of Choice for Gender Equality

On 9 November 2015, Deakin University was awarded the WGEA 'Employer of Choice for Gender Equality' (EOCGE) citation for the ninth year in a row.

Deakin University is one of only 90 workplaces around Australia to receive this prestigious honour in 2015.

Deakin has a longstanding commitment to valuing diversity, enabling access and promoting inclusion and The citation recognises the University's sustained efforts to improve employment outcomes for women.
