Activate your account

Students: Activate your student account online.

Staff: Administrative staff need to activate your staff account on your behalf, via the Identity and Access Management System.

Your account details – your username and password – are confidential. It is against University policy to share your password with anyone else.

Change your password

You will be prompted to change your password every 180 days. If you don't, your account will be disabled.

Remember to use your new password on any devices that you synchronise with your Deakin email account, or that you use to access the Deakin wireless network.

Choose a secure password

You can't reuse previous passwords on the Deakin system. Each time you change or reset your password, you'll need to create a new one.

Your password must be eight to 16 characters long and contain a combination of:

  • lowercase and uppercase letters
  • numbers
  • symbols.

Disabled and locked accounts

You will be prompted to change your password every 180 days. If you don't, your account will be disabled.

If your account is disabled, you will still be able to log in to a Deakin workstation. After you log in, you will be prompted to change your password.

Your account will be locked four weeks after it is disabled, unless you change your password.

It will also be locked if you make five incorrect password attempts in 15 minutes. This includes incorrect password attempts you make on synced devices.

Which IT systems can you access?

Your Deakin username and password gives you access to IT systems such as:

  • Deakin email
  • CloudDeakin
  • Deakin's wireless networks (Eduroam)
  • StaffConnect
  • StudentConnect
  • Deakin's home directory
  • network shares
  • Deakin workstations.

These IT systems do not use your Deakin username and password:

  • Callista Student Management. For assistance using Callista, please contact Callista User Help on 03 5227 3239.
  • BRUCE. Uses Callista password, see above.
  • HRMS. Please contact Human Resources for assistance.
  • DFMS. Please contact Financial Services for assistance.
  • TEMS (Spendvision). Please contact the TEMS Service Desk on 03 5227 2115 or email TEMSAdmin@deakin.edu.au.
  • SmartFleet University Vehicle Bookings. Please contact Deakin Fleet Management on 03 5227 2683 or email deakin-fleet@deakin.edu.au.
