University Experience Survey

The University Experience Survey (UES) is a national annual survey of first and later year undergraduate students.

Have you just been sent an email to complete the survey?

Undergraduate Deakin students in their first year of study, or near their final year of study are invited, and encouraged to participate in this survey.  Not all students will receive an email to participate.  If you did receive an email, you should visit http://www.ues.edu.au and use the username and password in the email to complete the survey.

About the University Experience Survey

The UES was a new survey instrument initiated by the Federal Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (now Department of Education) as part of the Advancing Quality in Higher Education agenda. It has been developed to provide a new national platform for measuring the quality of teaching and learning in Australian higher education and provides insights on how students at University experience education in their institution.

A UES Consortium led by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) administered the UES on behalf of the Department in 2011 and 2012. The UES instrument was developed by ACER in conjunction with the Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of Melbourne and the University of Western Sydney.

The survey was piloted in 2011, further refined and conducted by all universities from 2012. The UES survey period is from approximately early-August through to October each year, with some variations within this by institutions. The target response rate for the sector is 35%.

The successful tenderers for conduct of the 2013 and 2014 UES were Graduate Careers Australia (GCA) and the Social Research Centre (SRC).

UES results are published on the myUniversity website and national reports are available at https://education.gov.au/university-experience-survey. Each university receives a comprehensive UES data file to facilitate further analysis to inform actions in regard to quality improvement.
