Deakin Law School (DLS), partnering with one of the leading law firms in Australia, Arnold Bloch Leibler (ABL), will present a unique two-day workshop designed to give law students from Deakin and other universities an introduction to working in a commercial legal practice.

Event details

This interactive program, hosted by senior lawyers at ABL, will introduce law students to the practical realities faced by lawyers in a commercial practice. Through intense training, using case study methods and real life examples, this program encompasses the following areas:

  • Initial client engagement, and ethical duties and responsibilities
  • Letter writing and other communications in legal practice
  • Understanding, and addressing, your clients’ needs
  • Making mistakes, and what to do about it
  • The anatomy of a commercial transaction
  • Dealing with disputes, including alternative dispute resolution and litigation

We believe this program will assist you in enhancing your negotiation skills, file management, dispute resolutions, legal writing skills, teamwork and provide you the opportunity to work with real clients.
