The talents of a new generation of engineers were on show at the T2 Final Year Project Expo, hosted by Deakin University's School of Engineering and Engineering Alumni Chapter Committee in October.

The expo showcased a range of innovative final year projects from Deakin engineering students across a range of disciplines.

The Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training (CADET) at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus provided the perfect backdrop for the projects which ranged from a robot for automatic cow milking to a low-cost dynamometer for Deakin’s Eco-car which will participate in the 2018 Shell Eco-marathon Asia event.

Dr Ben Horan from Deakin’s School of Engineering and director of CADET’s VR Lab says the expo is an important opportunity for students to showcase their projects to alumni and local industry and get feedback on their work.

After the expo, guests attended a presentation by Deakin engineering alumnus Lieutenant Colonel David Hughes.

Lieutenant Colonel Hughes is the Deputy Director of Project LAND 121 Phase 3A which involves the modernisation of the Australian Army Land Forces.

He shared insights into defence projects and how the projects completed by engineering students at university can contribute to the overall defence and technological capabilities of the Australian Defence Force.
