26 February 2018

Welcome to this February edition of the dKin Times for 2018.

An early reminder that no matter when you graduated, as alumni you are eligible to take advantage of the DeakinTalent Graduate Recruitment Services.

Our Deakin Talent recruitment consultants can link you with the graduates or students you need to inject new thinking into your business – to solve a problem, advance a project or fill a short-term gap. DeakinTalent offers a full recruitment service including advertising to targeted cohorts, application review and interviewing.

Earlier this year I was in India, meeting with Government and our partner organisations. I also had the very great pleasure of meeting a number of our Indian alumni and officially launching our India Alumni Chapter. In its 24 years in India, Deakin has developed more than 40 strategic research and academic partnerships with India’s leading universities, research institutions and corporations.

Among the new partnerships established this year were a sister institute for the Deakin Child Study Centre in partnership with India’s National Institute of Mental Health (NIMHANS). We also held a series of workshops on sports governance in partnership with the Australian Sports Commission.

This year Deakin’s alumni program celebrates its 40th anniversary.  Deakin’s very first graduations were held in 1978 with students who transferred from The Gordon Institute of Technology and Geelong Teachers College. Deakin enrolled its first 2,445 students in 1977 on a windy green field site in Waurn Ponds. It was Victoria’s first regional university. Today, there are about 60,000 students across five campuses, including our fast-growing Cloud Campus.

Our Alumni Service will be holding a number of anniversary events this year, so it’s an excellent opportunity to ensure your contact details are up to date.

I do hope you enjoy reading our monthly alumni newsletter, it’s a great way to keep in touch with Deakin and hear the latest news and research.

President and Vice-Chancellor
