Biography

Dr Driscoll is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Deakin University. She is also a heart failure nurse practitioner. Andrea has an established program of research focussing on heart failure, acute and chronic cardiovascular disease, nurse practitioner, workforce, critical care and chronic disease management. She has been awarded a Heart Foundation fellowship to continue her research in heart failure. She is a past recipient of an NHMRC PhD scholarship and NHMRC postdoctoral fellowship.
The aim of her research is to improve evidenced-based practice in cardiovascular disease including the provision of health services and to reduce disparities in health care. Andrea has received several national and international awards for her research. She is a fellow of American Heart Association, fellow of Australian College of Nurse Practitioners and fellow of Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in recognition of her contributions to cardiovascular nursing through practice, research, and education. She was an executive committee member of the Cardiovascular Nursing Council of Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand for nearly 10 years. She was a past board member of the Victorian Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (VNMBA). Andrea continues her work as an expert advisor on Nurse Practitioners for the VNMBA and her appointment to the hearing panel by the Minister of Health for Victoria.

International awards
2011  Awarded an International Fellow of American Heart Association (AHA). AHA is one of the world’s most eminent organizations of cardiovascular and stroke professionals with over 27,000 members and over 16 scientific councils. The fellowship recognizes outstanding contributions in cardiovascular nursing and cardiovascular health, and volunteer leadership/ service within the American Heart Association. Fellows must demonstrate meritorious contributions to cardiovascular nursing through practice, research, and/or education that are recognized on a national level. There are currently 50 AHA Nursing fellows.

2010 Abstract submitted to AHA scientific conference was rated in the top 5 for Australia where only 23% of abstracts overall are accepted for presentation.  The AHA scientific conference is the leading cardiovascular meeting internationally with over 22,000 attendees. The Scientific conference is the largest gathering of scientists and healthcare professionals devoted to the science of cardiovascular disease and stroke and the care of patients suffering from these diseases throughout the world.
