Biography

Apel Mahmud received his PhD in Electrical Engineering with the best thesis award from the University of New South Wales, Australia in December 2012 and a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) in 2008 with the University Gold Medal. He also holds an MBA degree from Australian Institute of Business (AIB). Currently, he is working as a senior lecturer in electrical & renewable energy engineering at Deakin University, Australia and was working as a lecturer as well. He also worked as a lecturer in electrical & electronic engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, a research fellow at the University of Melbourne, and a research publication fellow at the University of New South Wales.


Since 2010, he has published more than 160 research articles including 50 high impact journal papers (around 85% in Q1). Dr. Mahmud’s research interests include power system stability, control of power systems including renewable energy sources as well as microgrids, energy management for microgrids, energy storage systems, transactive energy (data analytics), and nonlinear control theory.


Apart from this, Dr. Mahmud is actively engaged with different professional organizations. He was the chair of IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Victorian Chapter for 2016-2017. He was also listed as a program committee members of several IEEE conferences.
