Biography
Dr Belete Jember “BJ” Bobe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting in Deakin Business School. BJ has extensive teaching experience gained in tertiary institutions in Ethiopia, Egypt, UK and Australia. BJ teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate levels and diverse accounting subjects. His main teaching area is management accounting and has chaired (co-ordinated) and taught a second-year undergraduate management accounting and a third-year strategic management accounting subjects for several years at Deakin University. He has also taught advanced management accounting for honours and PhD students as well as advanced performance management for masters students. Management accounting subjects for masters students has been his primary area of teaching in recent times.
BJ’s research interest is in management accounting with a specific focus in management control systems and performance management systems. His research interests include accounting education, public sector accounting, and the professionalisation of accounting in developing countries.
He also has extensive practical work experience as a tax accountant, auditor, finance manager and financial controller in private and public organisations in several countries.
BJ is a full member of CPA Australia and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of UK. He actively participates in professional accounting developments. He was the chair of ACCA Australia and New Zealand Members Panel, a representative for the states of Victoria and Tasmania, Australia, and an ACCA International Assembly member from 2011 to 2016.
