Career highlights

She is frequently invited to contribute to nationally important initiatives. For example, she was a reference group member for the Second National Mental Health Survey of Children and Adolescents and the National Mental Health Services Planning Framework (promotion and prevention sub-committee). In January 2013 she was invited to be a contributor to the third edition of the World Health Organisation auspiced Disease Control and Priorities Third Edition (DCP3) (mental, neurological and substance abuse disorders) and was also invited to join the Economics Sub-Committee of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC).

Cathy has been awarded the Deakin University Population Health Strategic Research Cluster Award for Research Accomplishment (Mid-Career Researcher) in both 2011 and 2012 and the School of Health and Social Development Award for Research Excellence in 2013.

Research interests

Cathys research interests lie mainly in the economic evaluation of mental health and psychosocial care within an Australian context. This includes both undertaking full economic evaluations of services and interventions as well as focusing on specific methodological issues for economic evaluation of mental health care. For example, she has an advisory role in an NH&MRC funded project which is developing a preference based health related quality of life measure specifically for mental health problems.



She has considerable experience in the economics of stroke care where she was instrumental in developing the Model of Resource Utilisation Costs and Outcomes (MORUCOS) for the National Stroke Foundation and has also worked in the assessment of new health technologies (particularly MRI). Cathy has had experience conducting health program evaluation and research, particularly in the field of mental health.

Projects

Cathy has a broad range of research experienced ranging from the conduct of economic evaluations alongside clinical trials to broad-based priority-setting projects which simultaneously compare multiple interventions. She currently leads a team of dedicated mental health economists who work across multiple projects including clinical trials, priority-setting projects, costing studies, outcome measurement studies and modelled economic evaluations.
