Biography summary

Dr Hua Yong specialises in public health research focusing on tobacco control since 2003. His main research has been the use of population-based survey data to understand the psychosocial and behavioural impact on smokers of national level tobacco control measures such as standardized (plain) packaging, health warnings, anti-smoking mass-media campaign, tax increases, smoke-free policy, etc. More recently, Dr Yong's research focuses on novel nicotine vaping products (aka e-cigarettes) and the potential role they may play in helping smokers to quit smoking. Dr Yong's research also seeks to understand the psychosocial determinants of smoking relapse. Dr Yong worked as a senior behavioural scientist at the Cancer Council Victoria from 2011-2017 and started his appointment at Deakin University in April 2018.
