Biography summary

Peter Norden AO FANZSOC is an Honorary Fellow in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Deakin University. In February 2019 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Deakin University 'for sustained and eminent contributions to the Australian non-government sector in the field of community services'.

Peter is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology and has worked in the social policy and public advocacy field throughout Australia for some decades. Peter is a member of the ABC Advisory Council and a member of several advisory boards, including the National Red Cross community services advisory council.

As a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology, Peter contributes to Deakin University through consultation, guest lecturing, media availability. He is currently consulting on several government and non-government organisations in the social and community services field.

Conferences

Over recent years, Peter has presented two papers each year at the Annual Conference of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology.  These papers are accessible on his professional website: www.nordendirections.com.au

Peter is due to make a Keynote Presentation at the upcoming Reintegration Puzzle in Hobart in June, giving an historical overview and analysis of the key issues involved in prisoner aftercare services.

Professional activities

Peter is a member of the ABC Advisory Council where he advises the ABC Board and senior management on programming issues.

 

Peter is a member of the National Red Cross Services Advisory Council and is currently undertaking a consultation with regard to their juvenile justice initiatives. He is visiting their innovative juvenile justice program in Ceduna, South Australia, later this month.

Projects

Peter is presently consulting Australian Red Cross on their juvenile justice innovative programs, commencing this month with a visit to Ceduna, in South Australia.  He established Victoria's longest standing post release service, The Brosnan Centre, for 18-25 year old offenders, back in 1977.
