Read more on Sharleen's profileResearch interests
Dr. Sharleen O'Reilly's research is primarily related to the translation of research into practice particularly in the area of preventing of diabetes and heart disease through lifestyle behaviour change.
Her current research is focused on women who have had gestational diabetes and developing ways of preventing diabetes through better care being provided by GPs and national information sources. Other aspects to current research are working with populations at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes (women who have had gestational diabetes and older adults) to reduce their risk through tailored lifestyle behaviour change programs.
Previous research has focused on the role of folate in the health of the large intestine and whether folic acid supplementation can help promote better bowel health.
