Deakin University is reconfiguring and refurbishing Levels 1 and 3 of the library at the Melbourne Burwood Campus. This refurbishment will help to accommodate the recent growth in student numbers, increasing the occupancy potential of the building and increasing seating capacity by about 35%. The trend towards e-learning resources and the subsequent reduction in the physical library collection has helped create space to accommodate this project.

Key features of the project include:

  • power to all study points
  • increased toilet amenities on Level 1 and refurbishing those on Level 3
  • flexible furniture throughout the refurbished spaces, enabling students to personalise the spaces to suit their use
  • a new stairwell between levels to improve access to Level 1
  • increasing the capacity of the library by 337 learning spaces including 169 individual study spaces, 62 group study spaces and 106 lounge spaces
  • improving library services for students and researchers, academic staff and general staff
  • providing improved wireless internet coverage
