This $4m project funded through the Australian Government's Teaching and Learning Capital Fund includes informal learning spaces, a refurbished cafe and catering facilities and space for social activities.

Level 1 boasts retreat rooms for DUSA clubs, general workplaces, two computer labs and a language lounge. The area is staffed with a helpdesk to provide assistance for a range of requirements. Bookable meeting rooms and a quiet work zone between them are furnished with lounge breakout furniture.

The majority of Level 2 has become a large flexible space furnished with lounges, tables and chairs. Storage areas at the east and west ends of the floor for DUSA.

A key feature of this new space is the Student Learning Centre, where students can work independently or in small groups, with access to specialist resources to help them develop their language and learning skills. Language and Learning Advisers are also available to provide support to students if required.

The environmental principles incorporated into the design include:

  • considering full "Life Cycle" and "Ecological Footprint"; minimising energy and water use. This includes avoiding waste and using renewable resources;
  • avoiding degradation to environments and ecosystems;
  • avoiding pollution of air, water and soil;
  • complying with all relevant legislation and regulations.
