How we get involved

We strive to make a positive difference to the areas within which we have a presence, both locally and globally. Our mutually beneficial relationships ensure that we give back to the communities we serve.

We engage with communities through:

  • teaching within local communities
  • sponsoring events and initiatives
  • offering work-integrated learning programs with local organisations
  • nurturing partnership programs.

Our communities

Geelong

Geelong is where the Deakin journey began, with the opening of our first campus at Waurn Ponds in 1974. The development of ground-breaking strategic research centres and our second Geelong campus at Waterfront, as well as our partnerships with local government and businesses has helped Geelong and the region grow and thrive.

Melbourne

Deakin continues to create strong ties with the Melbourne community, from the city centre to the beautiful south-eastern suburbs surrounding our Melbourne Burwood Campus.

Warrnambool

In Warrnambool, we are involved with sustainability and innovation groups like Horizon 21.

We work with the local community and regional development organisations Committee for Portland and the Great South Coast Group to help encourage greater participation in regional education.

Western metropolitan Melbourne

Through our Deakin Learning Centre in Werribee, we're making higher education more accessible in the Western Metropolitan Melbourne region.

We're also building ongoing community relationships with local government, not-for-profits and schools in western metropolitan Melbourne.

Riverina Murray Region

In the Riverina Murray region, we offer higher education pathways to students at TAFE NSW Riverina Institute and also have close relationships with many major local industries, governments and employers.

Bendigo

As a major provider of higher education to students in Bendigo, we value our close ties with Bendigo TAFE and key local employers of the Bendigo Manufacturing Group and Australian Industry Group (AIG).

Support Deakin

Your support can change lives, both for Deakin students and for the wider community.

Whether it's establishing a new scholarship for someone who might not otherwise have the chance to go to university, or providing funding for a cutting-edge research program, you have the ability to make a difference through Deakin.
