TAFE Institutions

Deakin University has active alliances with three TAFE institutes in the vicinity of its Warrnambool, Geelong and Melbourne Campuses. It also has a range of formal agreements with other TAFE institutes around Victoria  for specific activities and/or programs.

In addition to these formal alliances and agreements, a wide range of TAFE courses and qualifications have been assessed by the University for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL); credit transfer determinations which are published on the University’s online Credit for Prior Learning database, that enables special pathway programs and credit arrangements for students transferring from TAFE to Deakin.

Under the terms of these agreements, Deakin has agreed to work in cooperation with the TAFEs to strengthen their mutual links. Some of the agreed goals include:

  • expand the range of higher and vocational education programs
  • develop and implement improved educational and training pathways including recognition of prior learning and advanced standing
  • market and deliver flexible courses and programs
  • research and development
  • staff professional development and exchange
  • shared use of facilities and resources.

Deakin's Associate Degree delivered with TAFE partners: 

Via these partnerships the Associate Degree is a two year, full-time (or part-time) equivalent course which introduces students to university study in a supported tertiary environment enabling regional students to study close to home.
