Students complete a research file and two feature articles, one on an assigned topic, the second on a topic of their choice. They are advised to localise their topics so several students each semester have researched topics relevant to rural or regional Victoria. Past feature articles have included: a historical feature on the port of Sale; a feature on occupations that included a taxi driver in a small country town; a feature on tourism and the Kelly connection in Glenrowan, linked to the Ned Kelly exhibition in Melbourne in 2010; features on Indigenous issues on the Bellarine Peninsula; an environmental feature on walking tracks in south-west Victoria.
