Biodiversity initiatives for the Waterfront Campus

We need your suggestions for increasing biodiversity at Deakin's Geelong Waterfront Campus!

Deakin University is committed to continuously improving biodiversity at all Campuses.

One of the key activities used to increase biodiversity and biodiversity awareness at Deakin are tree planting days. However, this is not practical at the Geelong Waterfront Campus, due to the location and proximity of space.

The University is therefore considering other options!

To date, the following suggestions have been discussed:

  • establishing a rooftop garden
  • offsetting loss of biodiversity by planting trees on other appropriate sites
  • implementing a WaterWatch program
  • running a Biodiversity staff on days such as World Wetlands Day, and giving away free seedlings
  • establishing a butterfly garden
  • installing nesting boxes to harbour neighbouring fauna

Other suggestions from staff and students are very welcome!

Please email your suggestions to the Office for Sustainability at enviro@deakin.edu.au
