The event is being held to celebrate National Tree Day to assist with biodiversity conservation and contribute to offsetting some of Deakin’s greenhouse gas emissions as part of the implementation of the Deakin University Sustainability Plan.
At the Warrnambool Campus, the plantings will supplement the previously planted swampy woodland habitat along the Hopkins River frontage. At the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, the plantings will increase woodland habitat along the Waurn Ponds Creek. At the Melbourne Burwood Campus, the plantings will increase woodland habitat along the northern boundary, providing a corridor to Gardiners Creek.
All staff and students are welcome to attend and participate in the plantings and those who do will receive a free BBQ lunch!
To register your participation email the Office for Sustainability at sustainability@deakin.edu.au
