Artcycling at Warrnambool

The Warrnambool Campus Library has discovered an innovative way to reuse and recycle unwanted materials without them going to landfill. Artcycle is a new Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) business in Warrnambool that sorts, cleans, and organises high quality industrial discards, diverting waste from landfill. The materials are collected free-of-charge from local businesses and then offered to the general public at low cost. Whether it be for art and craft classes, a school project, something that needs to be renovated around the home, or an upcoming theatre production, artcycle are likely to have useful materials at a fraction of the usual price.

Deakin’s Warrnambool Campus Library has already given artcycle some surplus, periodical boxes and old bookends, old computers, phones and keyboards. An example of how these materials are reused is that the company take the keys off the phones and keyboards for the children to use in learning to spell. Artcycle also has a separate business that accepts e-waste and also handles scrap metal. Artcycle is free to use and all departments are encouraged to use this resource if recycling procedures are not already in place.

FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Programme. FreeRice has 2 goals:

• Provide education to everyone for free.
• Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.
