In accordance with the Deakin University Act 2009 (Vic.) Council has established the Academic Board.
Council is the governing body of the University and is responsible for the 'general direction and superintendence of the University’. Council is publicly accountable for the University’s actions.
The Academic Board is responsible to Council and has general powers under the Deakin University Act:

The Academic Board is the principal academic authority within the University. It has responsibility to the Council for maintaining the highest standards in teaching and research.
