Australia Indonesia Research Institute for Humanity and Development

About the Research Institute

Background

Following visits to Indonesia in 2009 and 2010 by the Dean and other academics from the Faculty of Arts and Education at Deakin University, a strong partnership developed between Deakin University in Australia, Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), and Universitas Andalas (UNAND).

The visits included meetings with the Director-General of Higher Education in Jakarta which clearly pointed to the government agenda to improve the research capacity and performance of Indonesian universities, particularly the regional universities.

The concept of a Research Institute between Deakin, UNP and UNAND was launched at the succesful research conference on 'Governance and Development', held in Padang in December 2010.

The official signing of the Australia Indonesia Research Institute for Humanity and Development was held on 21 April 2011.
