What form of mentoring is best for you?
There are two forms of mentoring available to Alumni members, current students and staff.
As a propective mentee, you can choose either:
Career information interviewing (short form) OR
Career Mentoring (longer form over a few months)
Career Information Interviewing
Career Information Interviewing is conducted if you are considering entering an occupation or looking to change roles but would like more information before making your final decision or taking a course of action.
- Used to gain very specific career insights quickly
- Usually just one-off contact with an Alumni mentor for approx 20 minutes
- Mentee interviews an experienced Alumni professional (Deakin Alumni member)
- Can be done over the phone, online or face to face
- Alumni = Interviewee
- Student/Staff/Alumni = Interviewer
Career Mentoring
Career Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship between yourself and an experienced Alumni professional who will act as your short term adviser or guide providing on-going support, encouragement, and advice in regards to your career progression over the period of a few months.
- To assist in career decision making and transition to the workplace
- Series of contact with a Mentor for up to 4 months in duration
- Mutually agreed goals and actions between the mentee and the Alumni professional
- Can be done via phone, online, face to face or a combination
- Alumni = Mentor
- Student/Staff/Alumni = Mentee
