Alumnus wins prestigious Sri Lanka Award

Deakin Alumni Community member Yasiru Bandaranayake has taken out an award at the recent Austrade Australian Alumni Excellence Awards held in Sri Lanka.

Mr Banaranyake (pictured with wife Dinukshi ) who graduated in 2006 in Human Resource Management and Finance was adjudged the winner of ‘Australian Alumni Excellence Award 2013’ in the Business Leadership Category.

The award recognises business leadership among young, emerging and current leaders who demonstrate a commitment to responsible business practices bringing about positive change in the work place, as well as providing inspiration to others.

Mr Bandaranayake currently works as Manager, Human Resources at Pan Asia Banking Corporation in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is also an active alumni member in the country.

The award ceremony was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka at the Taj Samudra Hotel on Saturday 23 February with Acting Australian High Commissioner, Ms Sonya Koppe on hand to present the award along with Trade Commissioner for Austrade-South Asia Dr Dr Grayson Perry.

Mr Bandaranayake was nominated for the award by Dr Rodney Arambewela OAM, Senior Lecturer and Dean’s Envoy, Internationalisation for the School of Management and Marketing at Deakin.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
