Bachelor of Business (Computing)1994
Bill Kollatos landed his first management job at just 23. A few years later, he launched his own company and is now the managing director of Yarra Valley Farms.
Mr Kollatos - who graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Business (Computing) in 1994, established Yarra Valley Farms in 2001 and it has since grown to become one of Victoria's largest suppliers of fresh fruit and vegetables with over 400 commercial and hospitality clients.
'I discovered the fruit and vegetable hospitality distribution industry was one of Australia's most fragmented sectors..... it became evident that what was needed was an owner-operator looking after all customer requirements - price, quality and service,' he said.
Due to the strength of the company's established logistics systems, Mr Kollatos believes that international expansion is a real possibility.
Reflecting on his time at Deakin, Mr Kollatos said the course not only came with industry accreditation, but also provided him with solid business essentials.
'It was a great base for entering the IT (information technology) world... I also did many of the accounting subjects which were critical for me in helping to develop software systems for my business. I still hold many of these learnings in computing and accounting as a foundation for all that I do,' he said.
