Master of Nutrition and Dietetics (2002)
'What next?' It's a question many students will ask themselves at some stage during their university life and Fiona Morrison was no different. 'I'd just finished my undergraduate science degree and all I knew was that I didn't want to be stuck in a lab wearing a white coat. I started asking myself what I wanted to do next .'

After searching through her options, Fiona enrolled in the postgraduate Master of Nutrition and Dietetics at Deakin. 'It seemed like the obvious next step. I'd always been interested in the ability of food to influence health .'

Since graduating in 2002, Fiona has worked as a locum Dietitian in a number of public and private hospitals in Melbourne, before finding her feet in the food industry as company Dietitian for Yakult Australia. 'It's definitely been interesting and it's been great to be part of a company which has helped to drive Australia's growing interest in probiotics .'

Whilst at Yakult, Fiona's interests in marketing grew and she never lost contact with Deakin University. 'I'd always see my lecturers at Dietetics Conferences. It was a little strange at first, to see them as peers rather than lecturers, but at the same time it was great to see their continued interest and dedication in their profession. It was something I took for granted as a student .'

'Deakin has been a great place to study and the mix of theory and practical placement was invaluable. It gives you the confidence and skills you need, and encourages you to think outside the square and become more self reliant. I really enjoyed the relaxed environment and have maintained close friendships with many of the people I studied with .'

Fiona enjoyed her experience at Deakin University so much that she is now undertaking her second Masters and has recently returned to the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences, this time as their Marketing and Alumni Officer. 'I feel like I've come full circle; I'm now working in the Faculty I graduated from and promoting both Deakin and the course I studied from firsthand experience .'

In the future, Fiona looks forward to completing her second Masters and sinking her teeth into the Faculty's undergraduate and postgraduate promotional activities. She is also involved in coordinating the Faculty's Alumni events and collating student profiles.
