Graeme Simsion
Master of Business Administration 1986

I’m currently…
Managing business and IT consulting assignments, doing some consulting and facilitation in my own right, and teaching consulting skills. Since 2007, I’ve been studying screenwriting. I’ve made a number of short films and have recently completed a feature-film script.  The mix of work varies enormously from week to week.

Some special moments in my career to date are…
Building and then selling a consultancy business, publishing a successful technical book (Data Modeling Essentials) , keynote speeches at international conferences, facilitating at the Australia 2020 Summit.  Seeing my short plays performed and films shown at festivals has been a real buzz.

Winning a national screenwriting competition and receiving an Australian Writers Guild (AWGIE) award nomination for my feature-film screenplay The Rosie Project gave me great encouragement in my new career direction.

I studied…
As part of the second intake of Master of Business Administration students at Deakin and completed my MBA studies at the end of 1985.

Success to me is…
Being able to do the things I want to do.

I chose Deakin because…
As a systems analyst at the time, I wanted a better understanding of business and as a developing manager, I wanted to build my management skills – and do this while continuing to work full-time.

I would recommend Deakin because…
It gives you the option of studying off-campus and the opportunity to work with students who bring a variety of work experiences and academic backgrounds to the course.

The single-most important issue in the world to me is...
The legacy we leave.

In the future I’d like to…
Devote more time to writing, and see my films made.  And continue teaching consulting skills – I have a book in progress on the subject.
