Dr Manuela Habicht AFAIM
Master of Arts (Psychoanalytic Studies) 2002
Manuela Habicht graduated from Deakin in 2002 with a Master of Arts (Psychoanalytic Studies). "I enjoyed studying towards a Master of Arts (Psychoanalytic Studies) at Deakin University following my PhD because it gave me the chance to gain a more thorough understanding of the psychoanalytic theories which support my work. It is a valuable program that suited my interests because it allowed me to focus on 'current issues in psychoanalysis' by providing a link between neuroscience and psychoanalysis," she said.
Manuela worked extensively in Europe for many years. Her recent employment includes: Associate Professor, University of Applied Sciences, Germany; member, Board of Directors, Wichernheim eV Germany; Psychological Services Coordinator, Australasian Correctional Management (18 months); Officer in Charge, Psychology Support Section (Department of Defence), Darling Downs Region (two and a half years); and management experience in HR consultancy.
Manuela found Deakin's study options highly flexible, and she was able to research other areas of interest as part of her studies.
" I was able to investigate other areas of interest through independent projects such as 'psychodynamic supervision' as well as, 'a comparison of specific and non-specific processes in psychoanalysis, cognitive-analytic therapy and CBT'. I was greatly impressed by the level of support and encouragement I received from Deakin academics that led to the publication of some of my work at ERICCASS, " she said.
Manuela was Queensland Health's Director of Psychology for the Toowoomba Health Service district until mid 2005 and is now Assistant Centre Manager of the Riverina Juvenile Justice Centre in Wagga Wagga in New South Wales and also a Senior Lecturer in the Psychiatry Department at the University of Queensland.
