Mr Mark Hui
Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) 2004

Mark Hui's love of surfing drew him to Australia for its beautiful beaches and sporting orientation. But his primary reason for going to Australia was to undertake a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) at Deakin's Melbourne Campus at Burwood.

Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Mark had been investigating the option of international study and decided on Deakin University after attending an undergraduate study expo. Mark was impressed with Deakin's excellent academic reputation, flexible study options, leading edge e-learning facilities and fantastic teaching staff.

From the minute Mark arrived in Australia, he could instantly see himself spending the next four years here. "Australia is multicultural, full of friendly people and has fantastic transportation, I feel welcome here," he said.

Reflecting on his time studying at Deakin, Mark lists many highlights. Mark really enjoyed his honours year especially the Microeconomics and International Trade theory subjects. "I found them stimulating and useful in stretching my thought process while working on my thesis on Brain Drain Problem" he said. Mark was grateful of the support he was given as an international student, from Deakin International, DUSA, Student Life and Faculty of Business and Law staff."They all lent a helping hand when I needed it," he said.

Mark graduated with a first class Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree. During his time at Deakin, Mark was the recipient of numerous scholarships from the Faculty of Business and Law and Golden Key International Honour Society. Mark was awarded the title of 'Ambassador' from Deakin to study at The George Washington University (USA) as part of the international exchange program.

In addition to his impressive academic record, Mark was also actively involved in serving the University community as a student representative to the Academic Board, a panelist for the Vice- Chancellor and Australian National Teaching Awards and as President of the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society.

Since graduation, Mark has worked primarily in the manufacturing and distribution industry but moved into management consulting in a role as Senior Consultant with The LiTMUS Group. Prior to joining LiTMUS, Mark was a Director for a leading Australian Coffee Company where he successfully expanded the business, improved cost structure and operations as well as strengthened its brand nationally.

He said that his time at Deakin has helped him tremendously in his career development and is always thankful for the support from the university community at large. Mark is one of the founding members of Deakin Commerce Alumni and is now serving as the Vice President and an advisor to the Dean. Mark stands apart in his contributions to Deakin and has been a common figure at student workshops and seminars on campus and being a mentor to many at Deakin.
