Matthew Barca
Bachelor of Commerce 2006

Matthew Barca is a graduate analyst in the Melbourne practice of Corporate Reorganisation at Deloitte.

"We work with companies to improve all areas of company performance through our expert knowledge- either through taking control of the company under a formal appointment, such as a receivership or voluntary administration or advisory work where the company seeks specific advice on a certain aspect of the business, such as cash and working capital. As a graduate this means we are exposed to many different businesses and our work is greatly varied."

Matthew Barca enjoys his role at Deloitte and feels he was well prepared to take on the role following his studies at Deakin University.

"Deakin University provided a great foundation for a career in professional services. The Bachelor of Commerce enabled me to complete a broad variety of subjects, with two vastly different majors, in Accounting and Human Resource Management. The practical focus and innovative delivery of the degree meant that many of the skills learnt have been transferable to working life."

Matthew would like to encourage current university students to talk to their lecturers about career paths and get involved in university life.

"The academic staff at the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance were exceptionally helpful when deciding on future career paths. Their advice and mentoring over the years ultimately helped with my decision to work at Deloitte. The staff also gave me the opportunity to get involved directly with the University through helping at career fairs, creating and organising the inaugural student competition, The Deakin Think Tank Challenge and being an active member on the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance Advisory Board."

"I was attracted to Deloitte by the culture, reputation and the people and I was extremely impressed when they visited the University, at the Deakin Accounting and Finance Students Society careers fair. The reason I chose to work for Deloitte is because of the opportunities they provide to travel, the variety and quality of work available and the incredible amount of training they provide. I was given a graduate job offer after successfully completing vacation work."

"Matt had the skills to go out on a job on the second day of full time work and was able to make a valuable contribution to the team. He is able to quickly develop good relationships both on the job and socially and has the technical knowledge and understanding to solve complex problems and communicate these solutions to any level of management," Deloitte's CRG Manager, Michael O'Shea explained.
