Dr Robyn Zevenbergen
Bachelor of Arts in Education 1989
Bachelor of Arts in Education (Honours) 1990 and
Doctor of Philosophy 1994
"Since completing my PhD in 1994 at Deakin, I have risen to become a lecturer at Griffith University's Gold Coast campus."
"My move to Queensland has afforded me many opportunities that I did not imagine possible to the point that I am now an Associate Professor in mathematics education."
"Over the years I have become heavily involved in the local Gold Coast community, working with many schools and organisations associated with young people in the area and assuming roles on a number of state and private school councils."
"I take an active role in the mathematics education community serving as firstly Secretary and now Vice President (Teaching) of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA) and I am also a Chief Investigator on four ARC projects - 2 Discoveries and 2 Linkages - all of which have equity and diversity as central to their work."
"However my role in maths education doesn't end there - since 2003 I have been Deputy Director for the Centre for Learning Research where a team of thirty researchers are focusing on research related to a broad conceptualisation of learning across many domains."
"I am Chair of the Orientation and Engagement Committee which assumes responsibilities for first year experiences of students across the University and the implementation of our academic plan. This is a challenging position as it addresses issues related to teaching at Griffith and has helped me to develop a greater appreciation of the breadth of work being undertaken across the organisation."
"I consider myself very fortunate to be a Deakin graduate as my studies have provided me with a unique approach to understanding maths education. This has positioned me so that I have a critical edge in the field by seeing issues of equity and diversity through a different lens to most researchers in the field, enabling me to create a unique research area."
"As an educator, it was a career highlight to receive Griffith University's award for Best Individual Teacher in 2002."
