Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws 2007

For star Deakin graduate Tammy Leane, her main challenge is finding time to balance her passions for competitive sports and a career in the law.

After spending time on a swimming and study scholarship at West Chester University in Pennsylvania USA, whilst studying off-campus at Deakin as an external student, Tammy completed her commerce and law degrees in 2006 and also managed to win a string of sporting awards.

Among these awards, Tammy won the ESPN Academic All-America of the Year for Women's At-Large Sports in the College Division, Women's Athlete and Scholar-Athlete of the Year of her University and of the State of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Swimming Performer of the Year.

Since returning to Australia in 2007, Tammy has spent time working as a solicitor at country law firm, Maddens Lawyers based in Warrnambool and is currently working at O'Donnell Salzano Lawyers in Melbourne Victoria.

In addition to her burgeoning career in the law, Tammy has also found the time to win the Koroit to Warrnambool half marathon and place fourth in her age category and 28th female in the Melbourne Marathon in October 2007.

Within the law, Tammy has been heavily involved recently with the Law Institute of Victoria and their Young Lawyers' committees.

Tammy has also returned numerous times to her alma mater to act as a judge for Deakin's annual mooting competition and as guest speaker at various Warrnambool Campus functions.

Tammy now has set her sights on entering the Victorian Bar and will begin the Victorian Bar Readers Course in September 2008 and anticipates signing the Bar Roll and beginning practice as a barrister in November.
