Briony Cole received the Deakin Young Alumni of the Year Award in 2011 for outstanding service and achievement in her profession and her exceptional sporting achievements, particularly diving. Named Australian Diver of the Year in 2007, she is one of Australia's most successful divers.
Career path and highlights
At her first Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, Briony partnered with Melissa Wu to achieve Australia's best-ever result in synchronised diving – they won a silver medal in the 10 metre synchronised platform.
At the 2006 Commonwealth Games she won gold in the three metre synchronised event, and silver and bronze medals at the 2007 World Championships. She also won silver in the three metre synchronised diving and bronze in the 10 metre synchronised diving at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
After retiring from the sport, she joined the Australian Sports Commission as a Regional Coordinator in the Active After-School Communities program.
