- About Deakin
Deakin University Art Collections and Galleries is calling for submissions for exhibition proposals from practicing artists who have previously completed or are currently enrolled in postgraduate study at Deakin University. Artists from various disciplinary backgrounds such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, multimedia, film, animation, creative writing and performance are encouraged to submit their work or practice for consideration. Successful submission/s will result in an exhibition and supporting programs during the second semester of 2013 in the Deakin University Art Gallery.
Following on from the Gallery's first postgraduate exhibition, Discovery, in 2011, which considered the relationship between practice and exegesis in recent honours and postgraduate work, the next postgraduate exhibition hopes to provide further insights into practice-led research through understandings of ‘creative practice as the production of knowledge’. Deakin has established itself as a leader in the field of practice-as-research with publications such as Barrett, Estelle; Bolt, Barbara (2010) Practice as Research : Approaches to Creative Arts Enquiry I.B.Tauris, London, and the long running conference series and journal 'Double Dialogues'. This exhibition explores the type(s) of knowledge produced by practice as opposed to other forms of enquiry, and highlights the value of such knowledge through arts practices and creative research outcomes. In this way insight may be gained into what the creation of new knowledge means across the disciplines and in conjunction with existing knowledge.
