Faculty Access and Equity Reference Group

Mission
The AERG was established in 2008 to address and operationalise the Faculty’s commitment to access and equity. It includes representatives from each of the four schools in the Faculty. The work of the AERG has been informed by current policy frameworks and funding initiatives at the Federal Government level. The current focus of the AERG is on student equity.

The AERG works closely with the University’s Equity and Diversity Unit in order to synchronise the Faculty’s equity and access strategic objectives and initiatives with those of the University.

Aims

  • To develop and further the Faculty’s commitment to recruiting and retaining students who have traditionally been under-represented in higher education.
  • To develop and further the Faculty’s commitment to maintaining an equitable and diverse workplace for staff.

Actions
The AERG has developed a Faculty three year Access and Equity Action Plan 2010-2012 which outlines actions to be undertaken by the Faculty and serves as a measure of accountability. Actions for 2009-2010 include:

  • Benchmarking access and equity best practice across the sector
  • First in Family longitudinal project
  • Appointment of Equity Project Officer/Research Fellow
  • Appointment of Retention and Success Officer
