ICT in Language Classrooms

Teachers bring web 2.0 to their language classrooms

induction-workshopVokis, cartoons, iPads, interactive white boards, Nintendo DSi, creating online books, iPod Touch, animations, Moodle, photo stories, web conferencing, pod casts, mind maps, social networking, wikis, digital stories, short films, blogs, wordle, vimeo, skype, audacity, twitter, quizdom, webcam, Ultranet, iTalk.

All of these technologies are part of the NALSSP ICT Languages Project that commenced at Deakin in May. Forty-one government school teachers were selected by DEECD to attend a two day induction workshop and then undertake an action research project on using information & communication technologies (ICT) in their languages classroom. With support from the Centre for Teaching Asian Languages and Cultures and other academic staff from Deakin, the teachers explored web 2.0 applications and gadgets that they could use in their classrooms to improve student outcomes. The teachers will conduct their action research questions during term 3 and come together at the end of the year to share their findings. During the project teachers are using an Ultranet design space to communicate with each other.
