Vale Associate Professor Hans Lofgren

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Associate Professor Hans Lofgren.

Since joining Deakin in 1996, Hans has been an active member of our Centre, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Education and the University Community at large. During that time Hans has played an important role in the Centre's development as a member of the Executive and as a convenor of a number of  our Thematic Research Groups. To these roles he brought unwavering passion, integrity and a willingness to support others. His insights and advice have been central to the ongoing vibrancy of our Centre.

Hans' research interests have included Indian politics and the political economy of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in Australia, India and globally. He was particularly interested in how policy interventions in this field impacted upon the most vulnerable in developing countries. He was a rigorous and thoughtful scholar who, though a leader in his field, was often modest in asserting his own achievements.

Our deepest sympathies are with Hans' wife and family during this time.

Hans will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his warmth and his collegial approach to academia.
