Deputy Vice-Chancellor's Welcome
Welcome to the Centre from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)
On behalf of Deakin University, I would like to welcome you to this prospectus for the Centre for Citizenship and Globalisation (CCG).
For a nation located as we are geographically in the Southern hemisphere, it is very important for Australia to look at how it engages with its region, and with the world.
It is equally important for us to know what the world thinks of us.
This is a key part of the CCG's work.
Additionally, the CCG researchers look at what "citizenship" means, what is the impact of exclusionary politics both here in Australia and globally, how cultural diversity is managed and what are key ideologies and institutions for good governance.
In Australia, we are fortunate to live in a largely tolerant and pluralistic society. We have much to gain from fully understanding what has brought us to this point in our history, and what we can do to ensure we continue to develop in this way.
In partnership with the industry, government and the broader community, the CCG has an important role to play in this. I invite you to look at the impressive work of Professor Fethi Mansouri and his colleagues and, where appropriate, to join with them in achieving their goals.
