Postgraduate courses in Professional Education and Training

At the same time, trainers and educators have a strong involvement in the implementation of social policy to assist individuals to access education and training in a relevant and meaningful way.

Deakin’s Professional Education and Training courses are the right choice, if you:

Employment opportunities

The Professional Education and Training (PET) courses are relevant to people working in business, government, military, health services, higher education, the training sector, or VET in schools. Deakin University’s PET program is designed to enable you to customise your course to suit your professional requirements and enhance your career opportunities.

Course Structure

The program is offered at graduate certificate and master levels. You can choose your units of study to cover a broad range of topics or to enable you to develop a particular focus of study in an area that will best suit your career and employment needs. For example, you can choose units that focus on learning and development, flexible and online learning, workplace and vocational education and training, training for diverse clienteles, or applied learning and VET in schools.
The masters degree comprises 8 credit points of study and normally involves two or more years of part-time, off-campus study. For students who feel they are not yet ready for masters study, or would prefer a shorter course, the University also offers graduate certificate courses in professional education and training which comprise 4 credit points of study. The graduate certificate can be
completed in one year of part-time, off-campus study. Successful completion of a graduate certificate will provide entry to the masters program with the possibility of up to 4 credit points of advanced standing. The number of credits will depend on your previous tertiary qualifications and work experience.

Course duration and delivery

The Professional Education and Training courses are offered off campus by part-time or full-time study. The Master of Professional Education and Training is normally completed within four or five semesters of part-time study or the full-time equivalent. The Graduate Certificate of Professional Education and Training course is normally completed in two semesters of part-time study.

How to apply

To apply for postgraduate study simply submit an online application by visiting www.deakin.edu.au/apply. Please ensure that you are aware of closing dates and further application requirements, follow all the application steps and provide all relevant information regarding previous study and work experience. For more information about how to apply and closing dates visit www.deakin.edu.au/future-students/postgrad-students/. You can begin your course in semester 1 or semester 2. Semester 1 begins in late February and semester 2 in July. Applications for semester 1 should be submitted to the University by mid-December at the latest and applications for semester 2 by early June. Early applications are advisable.
