This three-day course will explore how changes in ideas about beauty and reality at the turn of the twentieth century, and then again at mid-century led to new ways of making and talking about art, music and literature. Modernism and Postmodernism demanded different responses from art audiences. In this course we ask: How can art appreciation go beyond expressing our personal likes and dislikes? What influence has art in Europe and America had on the work of Australian artists since settlement?
