'Lonely Girl' short animation by student Kyle Evans - his major project for ACM327 Advanced Animation in Semester 2, 2008.
Lonely Girl is a hand-drawn, traditionally animated short film that was based around a music mashup by Matthew "Chicago-Lollie" Davis. The original song by Little Anthony And The Imperials was a romantic love song, but Davis' mashup turned it into something far more twisted - so the animation aimed to visualise the sinister story that the mashed up music had created. Lonely Girl also owes inspiration to the films of Don Hertzfeldt. The animation itself was created on a home-made animation desk/light box and was drawn on recycled paper to get a kind of film grain effect.
'Lonely Girl' was screened in the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2010. Kyle Evans received funding from Screen Australia to attend in person.
The work also won first prize - Best Animation Sydney Underground Film Festival 2009.
