Gendered roles in Manankurra
Both men and women
can move freely in the country at Manankurra. There are a few places where
very important ceremonies were held and people, both men and women, are
still reluctant to go there. In the past, both men and women worked on
the salt-pans gathering salt. Many of the a-kurija and walaba (fun songs)
still sung by Yanyuwa women today were composed at Manankurra.
