Working With Children Check
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (Victoria) requires all student teachers to hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) before being allowed to undertake professional experience placements in education settings in Victoria.
Students are required to apply for a volunteer WWCC through a participating Australia Post outlet (which can be found on the Australia Post website or the Department of Justice website) and provide proof to the Professional Experience Office that the WWCC has been undertaken. Because the WWCC is monitored on an ongoing basis, students will be required to nominate the Professional Experience Office of the Faculty of Arts and Education at Deakin as an “organisations” on their application. Further details will be available at enrolment.
A photocopy of students' WWCC cards will be held on file, but it is the student’s responsibility to ensure their check is valid at all times throughout their enrolment and to provide the card upon request. All interstate students are required to provide a WWCC (or equivalent) issued from and as required by the state/territory in which their professional experience is to be undertaken.
Students who are given a negative assessment notice will be advised of alternative options for tertiary study due to their inability to satisfy the professional experience requirements of the course.
