Music in Schools Project

Congratulations to Jenny Grenfell, Fiona Phillips and colleagues on their successful tender through the Warrnambool Charitable Trusts, awarded under the auspice of Deakin's Centre for Partnerships and Projects in Education ($220,000).

The Deakin Music in Schools Project will develop and implement a model of music professional development designed to enhance the capacities of primary teachers located in regional and rural schools to better utilise teacher professional skills, strategies and competencies to plan, develop and confidently implement innovative music curriculum in their classrooms.

Participation in the project will be offered free of charge to teachers in all primary schools in Warrnambool and district.

Using a multi modal approach including weekly studio based workshops augmented with interactive e-learning study materials and online discussion, teachers will enhance their personal music repertoire and skills and collaborate in the development of a program of Music learning activities for all levels of primary schooling. The program will promote greater classroom engagement by students in sustained music experiences throughout all levels of primary schooling.
