The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (Victoria) requires all pre-service teachers to hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) before being allowed to undertake placement in schools/ educational workplaces in Victoria. WWCC cards are valid for five years and are applicable to placements undertaken in government, Catholic and independent schools. Pre-service teachers will not be allowed to complete placement if they cannot produce a WWCC card on arrival at the school/educational workplace (and as requested thereafter). Failure to comply with these requirements will jeopardise a student's enrolment in the course.
If You Already Have A WWCC CardIf a pre-service teacher already has a WWCC, this WWCC may be used for professional experience purposes. A copy of the card must be provided to the Deakin University Professional Experience Office together with the ‘Authority to Release Information’ form.As the Professional Experience Office must be added to the list of organizations to be notified with the Department of Justice, you will need to update this information on the ‘Online Change of Details’ page which is found in the ‘Cardholders’ section of the website:
Please make sure you read and complete the WWCC form accurately. If you have any questions about the form, please contact the Working with Children Check Unit at the Department of Justice on 1300 652 879 or via email:firstname.lastname@example.org
or refer to the WWCC website: www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren
Proof of identity: when you take the form to the Post Office, make sure you take the ORIGINAL proof of identity documents with you and that these documents add up to 100 points or more.
When completing Section 11 make sure that you add the relevant numbers that refer to child-related work (see page 15 of application form) and that the 'volunteer' box is crossed against all of them. For example 44 & 46 will cover primary and secondary schools, 48 & 50 will cover TAFEs and adult education providers.
When completing Section 12: 'Details of Organisation' section, students must enter the following information for the name, address, etc., of the Name of the Primary Organisation in section 12:

When you lodge the WWCC application form at a participating Australia Post outlet you will be given an application receipt. This application receipt is proof that you have lodged an application for a WWCC. A copy of the application receipt must be forwarded to the Deakin University Professional Experience Office with the signed 'Authority to Release Information' form.
A WWCC card will be sent to you (this can take a number of weeks). Immediately upon receipt of the card you are required to provide a clear photocopy of the card to the Deakin University Professional Experience Office. It is your responsibility to ensure that your WWCC is valid at all times throughout your enrolment and to provide the card upon request at a placement school.
Teachers who have current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching do not need to apply for a WWCC. Pre-service teachers who are registered with VIT should fill out the “Authority to Release Information form” form and return it to the Professional Experience Office along with a photocopy of their VIT registration card.
