Plan two lessons for a class - two per day

Teach two planned lessons to class (two per day) and/or quarter of a day.
Observe and participate in class activities.
Attend meetings eg. KLA, staff etc; be involved in yard duty, school activities.

EEP301 a different primary school and a different grade level from year 2 (where possible)

EEP302
10 days

Plan a sequence of interrelated lessons in one key learning area.

Teach a sequence of interrelated lessons in one key learning area and/or teach continuously for a period of half a day.
Assist in classroom tasks and be involved in all classroom activities.
Attend meetings, be involved in yard duty, school activities etc.

EEP302 another different primary school; different grade level (where possible)

YEAR 4

EEP401
15 days

Plan for an extended period of teaching (whole day) using appropriate or teacher’s planning format.

Teach for an extended period at least one whole day, and other teaching as negotiated with supervising teacher.
Attend meetings, be involved in yard duty, school activities etc. Team planning/level meetings, curriculum and staff meetings.

EEP401 primary school: 4th year students are placed at the same school for all of the 4th year placements.

EEP402
10 days

Plan a series of lessons integrating a minimum of 2 KLA’s.
Plan the entire work of a class for a minimum of 3 days.

Teach a series of lessons integrating a minimum of 2 KLA’s.
Teach a class for a continuous period of at least 3 full days.
Ensure that the lessons reflect an integrated approach.
Become fully involved in the life and operations of the school, as per a beginning teacher.

EEP402 return to same school for 1 x 10 day block (same or different grade-school decides).

EEP403
15 days

Plan the entire work of a class for a continuous period using an appropriate work program format.

Teach a class for a continuous period-minimum of 10 sequential, consecutive full days. Become fully involved in the life and operations of the school, as per a beginning teacher.

EEP403 return to same school for 1 x 15 day block (same or different grade-school decides).

LOTE Primary
Primary students intending to teach primary LOTE. Must see PEO at the start of trimester 2 in their 3rd Year.

LOTE Primary*
20 days

Students intending to teach LOTE must plan 2 lessons per day for 20 days of their course to qualify as a LOTE teacher. The lessons are taught in year 4 in conjunction with the LOTE methodology unit.

Students are required to teach 2 lessons per day for 20 days and be supervised by a qualified LOTE teacher.

LOTE students will be placed for 4th year at a primary school where their LOTE is taught. Additional days of school experience are needed to meet LOTE requirements.

Middle Years
Optional qualification to teach years 7 to 10 in one method. For students with a major sequence in one secondary discipline area.
Must see PEO at the start of trimester 2 in their second year.

Middle Years

1 lesson per day; 2 lessons per day if the supervising teacher considers the pre-service teacher is ready

  • supervise the work of small groups of students and work with individuals.
  • collect and analyse policy documents relating to inclusivity
  • keep a teaching portfolio (electronic and/or hardcopy) in which evidence of their planning, observations, collected documents, participation in school activities and teaching reflections are kept. Pre-service teachers will be expected to share their portfolio with their supervising teachers and appropriate University teaching staff. Data collected through portfolio activities will be used in unit assessment tasks

ETP201

10 days in Trimester 1

* can be placed in pairs

  • observe, identify and record demonstrated features of a safe, inclusive, engaging and challenging learning environments.
  • collect and analyse policy documents relating to these features
  • attend meetings, yard duty, school activities and any opportunities for engagement with the broader school community.
  • supervise the work of small groups of students and work with individuals.
  • as a pair and with supervisor, work toward team teaching whole class.
  • keep a teaching portfolio(electronic and/or hardcopy) in which evidence of their planning, observations, collected documents, participation in school activities and teaching reflections are kept. Pre-service teachers will be expected to share their portfolio with their supervising teachers and appropriate University teaching staff. Data collected through portfolio activities will be used in unit assessment task

MIDDLE STAGE

ETP301

 10 days in trimester 1

  • undertake an orientation to the school environment.
  • identify two learners to focus their attention. Follow these learners across a range of subject areas, classes and learning experiences with the purpose of drawing upon these multifaceted observations to inform their planning in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • teach two lessons a day for a class, small groups of students or with individuals.
  • attend meetings, be involved in yard duty, school activities and any opportunities for engagement with the broader school community.
  • keep a teaching portfolio(electronic and/or hardcopy) in which evidence of their planning, observations, collected documents, participation in school activities and teaching reflections are kept. Pre-service teachers will be expected to share their portfolio with their supervising teachers and appropriate University teaching staff. Data collected through portfolio activities will be used in unit assessment tasks.

ETP302

10 consecutive days in trimester 2

  • undertake an orientation to the school environment.
  • design, implement and evaluate their own unit of work if appropriate and curriculum innovations.
  • teach whole class for at least two lessons per day building to one day of full control
  • attend meetings, be involved in yard duty, school activities and any opportunities for engagement with the broader school community.
  • keep a teaching portfolio(electronic and/or hardcopy) in which evidence of their planning, observations, collected documents, participation in school activities and teaching reflections are kept. Pre-service teachers will be expected to share their portfolio with their supervising teachers and appropriate University teaching staff. Data collected through portfolio activities will be used in unit assessment tasks.

FINAL STAGE

ETP401

Part A :
10 days negotiated over 3 weeks and
Part B : 15 consecutive days
Total of 25 days completed by end of Trimester 1

  • undertake an orientation to the school environment.
  • plan, incorporate and evaluate assessment principles in their pedagogical and curriculum practices.
  • teach whole class for at least two lessons a day leading to teaching at least 3 whole days
  • attend meetings including a School Council meeting, be involved in yard duty, school activities and any opportunities for engagement with the broader school community.
  • attend and participate in parent/teacher (/student) interviews.
  • keep a teaching portfolio(electronic and/or hardcopy) in which evidence of their planning, observations, collected documents, participation in school activities and teaching reflections are kept. Pre-service teachers will be expected to share their portfolio with their supervising teachers and appropriate University teaching staff. Data collected through portfolio activities will be used in unit assessment tasks.

ETP402

20 consecutive days in Trimester 2

  • plan a unit of work/whole class program using an appropriate format for extended planning as discussed with supervising teachers
  • teach whole class for at least two lessons a day leading to full control for at least 10 days straight
  • become fully involved in the life and operations of the school, as per a beginning teacher
  • attend and participate in parent/teacher (/student) interviews
  • Undertake the Deakin ATA

E359 Version 4 (students beginning 2012 onwards) LOTE and Middle years
