Secondary Undergraduate School Placement Expectations for 2010 enrolments and earlier

For secondary teaching courses:

  • Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary/ BA) D347 (Burwood Only)
  • Bachelor of PE/Health and PE - E377
  • Bachelor of Teaching (Science/BSc) D351 (Burwood Only)

For Students enrolled in 2010 and earlier (80 DAYS OF SCHOOL EXPERIENCE OVER 4 YEARS).

YEAR 2

Plan classroom observations in line with studies in EXE201.
Investigate and undertake lesson plans in consultation with supervising teacher.
Reflect in writing on observations made.

Orientation to the school environment.
Observation of class, school and teacher routines (in a primary school setting). Undertake observations about the middle years of schooling and computer-based learning.
Supervise the work of small groups of students; take the opportunity to teach if it suits your teacher. Attend meetings, yard duty, school activities etc.

EEY201 primary school (middle/upper primary class if possible)

EEY202
10 days

Plan whole/part of a lesson for a class.

Where appropriate, teach whole/part of a lesson for a class; team teach with supervising teacher. Observe class, school and teacher routines (in a secondary school setting).
Attend meetings eg, method, staff etc; be involved in yard duty, school activities etc.

EEY202 - secondary school: observation and introductory practical teaching. Observations of a number of teachers where possible.

 

YEAR 3

EEY301/306

Plan lessons for a whole class

Teach lesson for a class (at least one per day) and/or play a significant role in at least one lesson per day - this can include team-teaching.
Observe two lessons per day.
Attend meetings eg. KLA's staff etc; be involved in yard duty, school activities etc.

EEY301 - secondary school (first method)

EEY302/307
10 days

Plan lessons for a whole class, develop a unit of work if appropriate.

Teach lessons for a class (optimally two per day) but one per day is acceptable if a significant role is played in other lessons when not directly teaching.
Observe two lessons per day.
Attend meetings, be involved in yard duty, school activities etc.

EEY302 - return to same secondary school for second method teaching, where this is acceptable to the school.

 

YEAR 4

EEY401
10 days neg.

Plan lessons for a class at junior and/or senior levels of the school using an appropriate planning format.

Teach lessons for a class at junior and/or senior levels of the school in both methods-2 lessons per day.
Observe 2 lessons per day (one in each method) and other areas.
Attend meetings, be involved in yard duty, school activities etc.

EEY401 - secondary school. Both methods where possible
4th year students are placed at the same school for all of the 4th year placements if possible.

EEY402

EEY403
20 day block

Plan units of work/whole class program for a class at junior and/or senior levels of the school using an appropriate format for extended planning as discussed with supervising teachers.

Teach lessons at junior and/or senior levels of the school: the equivalent of two 50 minute lessons per day in each method over the 3 week period.
Observe lessons: equivalent of two 50 minute lessons in each method over the duration of the placement.
Become fully involved in the life and operations of the school, as per a beginning teacher.

EEY402 and EEY403 - return to same school if possible for 2 placements (10 day + 20 day)
