Science and Environmental Education is taught in the following courses:
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

- Master of Teaching
In teaching science education, we want our students and other professionals to develop a critical appreciation of science, its practice, and a knowledge of contemporary issues in the teaching of science in schools. We want them to critically reflect on the nature and practice of science, and develop competency in designing approaches that support children in science learning.
Our teaching of science education is underpinned by several key ideas. We believe in a socio-constructivist approach which includes some essential elements:
- Research informs our teaching
- Using a teacher representational approach and a student representational challenge response
- theories of science learning are closely linked with practical experiences to establish conceptual understanding
- Ensuring the ‘big ideas’ in science are taught
- Using an enquiry approach to science investigations
