Aspirations, strategies, pathways, and destinations of international students in Australian universities
This project seeks to create a literature review and database analysis to develop an ARC linkage on the Mismatch between graduate skills of international students and Australian skills shortages. This interdisciplinary linkage will:
- analyse Australian international education, immigration and employment policies
- map the scale, scope and nature of international student movements in public and private, secondary and tertiary sectors
- track student pathways through from initial plans, contacts, selection of institution and program, access and success, transitions, graduate aspirations and destinations
- investigate the nexus between student aspirations and international education programs
- identify tensions between skill formation through Australian international education and Australian and global workplace demand
- examine how Australian international education considers and meets cultural and linguistic demands in specific fields
This IIK project aligns with Deakin's strategic directions. It will contribute to better understanding Deakin's postgraduate destinations.
